Is Board Culture Exposure open to amateur photographers or is it limited to professionals?

Professionals and amateurs are welcome. No distinction will be made in the choice of the finalists and winners. Only the quality of the proposed images will be taken in consideration. On top of that, B.C.E is open to photographers worldwide.

What are the registration fees to participate in the B.C.E.?

Participation in the B.C.E. is free for all.

What is the deadline to submit my photos to the event?

Competition is only accessible via our website www.boardcultureexpo.com from April 1st at 00:01 am, until May 31 at 11:59 pm. Past this date, no photo material will be considered for B.C.E 2025 edition.

Is it possible for one photographer to take part in different categories?

Yes, every photographer will have the possibility to enter any category of his choice.

How many photographs can a single photographer submit per category?

A maximum of 5 photos per category is set. Except in the “reportage” category in which candidates will be allowed to submit 2 series of min 5 to max 10 photographs.

Should submitted works have been produced during a precise temporality?

No, for this first edition, you can submit any photograph of your choice, whether it’s been shot in 2025 or in the 30’s, as long as it fits the category its submitted to.

What type of photographs can compete in the “skateboard” category?

Any photograph that documents the practice of skateboarding, in all its forms.

What type of photographs can compete in the “surf” category?

Any photograph that documents the practice of surfing, in all its forms.

What type of photographs can compete in the “snowboard” category?

Any photograph that documents the practice of snowboarding, in all its forms.

What type of photographs can compete in the “lifestyle” category?

Any photograph that documents an atmosphere, a moment of life related to skateboarding, surfing, or snowboarding.

What type of photographs can compete in the “reportage” category?

A series of photographs – from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 10 – depicting an adventure, an event, a story, a journey or a portrait of a personality involved in the skateboarding, snowboarding or surfing scene.

Can the same photograph be presented in several categories?

No, each photo can only compete in one category.

What are the technical criteria to be respected for each submitted photograph?

All images must be in Jpeg format with an RGB color profile. The size of each file must not exceed 6 Mo for a resolution of 300 dpi in a maximum format of 1675 x 1256 pixels. Files’ names must scrupulously respect the following nomenclature: NAME_FIRSTNAME_LOCATION_DATE_RIDER_TRICK (without accent or punctuation). The first and last name are those of the photographer, the rider can be the name of the athlete and the trick can be the name of the trick performed.

How do I know if I am one of the finalists?

Finalists will be notified directly by email.

When will be announced the finalists in each categories ?

The list will be announced officially early August.

What are the prizes for the winners?

 All finalists will have their selected shots exhibited in the sumptuous Salon Diane at the Casino de Biarritz, from October 24 to November 1, 2025.

The winners in each category will receive their trophies from the members of the jury and our partners at the awards ceremony on Saturday, October 25, 2025, which will also take place in the Salon Diane of the Casino Municipal de Biarritz, at the heart of the exhibition.
A winner will be crowned in each category: Skateboard, Surf, Snowboard, Lifestyle & Reportage.
The Grand Prix Du Jury, presented by Leica, will be awarded to the best photograph in all categories, with the winner receiving a Leica camera and lens.
The People’s Choice Award will go to the photograph that receives the most votes on our Instagram account.

Details of the prizes allocated to each winner will be announced at a later date.

What is the purpose of the Board Culture Exposure Festival?

B.C.E. was born from a deep desire, getting people to discover the many photographic masterpieces from this culture, and thus highlight the inseparable link that exists between athletes and those who document their prowess.

The B.C.E. festival will run from friday October 24th until Saturday November 1st, 2025, at the Casino de Biarritz. Exclusive B.C.E curations will be displayed in different exhibition venues throughout Biarritz during the festival, locations and opening times to be announced soon.

Why is the Board Culture Exposure festival taking place in Biarritz?

Biarritz is the cradle of surf culture in Europe, and therefore by extension skate and snowboard cultures, it is the most beautiful setting to showcase Board Culture!
