Board Culture Exposure Edition #2, by the numbers
9 days celebrating board culture, and what a result. The 2025 edition of BCE confirmed the festival’s place in Biarritz’s cultural landscape and beyond.
In the lead-up to the festival, over 250 international amateur and professional photographers submitted their applications to the competition. The jury, who received more than 2,000 images, selected 36 photographers whose approximately 70 photographs were exhibited during the event at the Casino Municipal de Biarritz, Salon Diane. In total, 9 Awards were presented, including 2 to reward the winners of the Skateboard and Surf Live Photo Contests.
In addition to the main exhibition at the Casino, the festival featured 4 “Off-Site” installations in iconic Biarritz locations: White Umami at Atabal, Retro by Benjamin Deberdt at the Médiathèque, Dance of the Seagulls at Le Labho, and Beyond The Sandbank on the Côte des Basques promenade.
On the cinema front, the Royal hosted 3 feature films with directors in attendance – MENIKMATI, THE BIG SEA and THE ETERNAL BEAUTY OF SNOWBOARDING – while the Casino screened 11 short films on themes all related to Board Culture.
The program was enhanced with a skateboard demo facing the ocean, a drawing workshop on modules for children, 3 photography workshops (Surf, Skateboard & Lifestyle), portfolio reviews highly appreciated by photography enthusiasts, and 5 conferences bringing together major players from the action sports scene. On the music side, 15 Live DJ sets successfully punctuated the festival evenings.
The public responded enthusiastically: 5,000 unique visitors explored the exhibitions and side events. BCE’s official Instagram account generated over 2.5 million views over 2 months. Finally, the festival benefited from more than 70 press mentions in international general and specialized media: The Good Life, Elle Magazine, Sud Ouest, FishEye… and many others.
Today, in the aftermath of this 2nd chapter, we can say that we are proud of the work accomplished by our entire team. These promising figures illustrate the success of this 2025 edition and reinforce our ambition to grow the festival, which undoubtedly has bright days ahead…
See you in 2026 for the third edition of Board Culture Exposure.
